1. Can you introduce yourself, and tell us about your team or company?
I'm Ryan Vanderpol, a serial entrepreneur originally from Seattle, now living in Barcelona after spending 10 years in NYC. I primarily run a software consulting agency called Beta Acid (where we use Rollbar for client projects), but I also have another team that builds and operates several SaaS products, including Notework, Cut Club, Nudge, Spiceful, Winetraqr, and many more — all of which use Rollbar. I also run a winery in Priorat, Spain, called Mas de l'Abundància.
2. How do you plan to use Rollbar?
I've been building software for more than 20 years, and cloud-based error logging has been a critical part of every product I've been a part of for as long as I can remember. Each of our products has a dedicated Rollbar Slack channel where our engineers constantly monitor infrastructure health, allowing us to respond to issues in real time with instant access to stack traces and other valuable debugging information. Without Rollbar, we would have to rely on users to email us about errors they experience — and it's much more likely they won't tell us, will leave the product forever, and we'll never know what happened.
3. What made you choose Rollbar?
We used to use Sentry, but the cost kept increasing, and they kept adding features to the platform that we didn't want, which just made it more cumbersome and confusing to use. Our needs are pretty simple: all we want is a log of what errors occurred, a stack trace, and Slack notifications. That's it.
